Great Gatsby Men Style Clothing

The Great Gatsby has been the buzzword for the past couple of months owing to the movie version of Baz Luhrmann and the many Gatsby-related product affiliations. There are the costumes for Carey Mulligan from Prada and Miu Miu and the Art Deco jewels especially created by Tiffany & Co. There is the Fitzgerald Suit at The Plaza Hotel in New York decorated in Art Deco style by The Great Gatsby‘s designer Catherine Martin with Restoration Hardware  furnishing and copies of F. Scott Fitzgerald book. There are also men style clothes worn by Leonardo DiCaprio’s clothes as Jay Gatsby created by Brooks Brothers.
In the movie version that starred Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, Redford’s clothes were made by Ralph Lauren including that pink suit which has become a lasting sartorial image, a look that continues to be referenced by designers including Lauren himself. In the Luhrmann film, DiCaprio also dons a pink suit and that pink suit has made its way into Brooks Brothers’ Gatsby collection, a special line inspired by the movie’s costumes.
A pink suit is not the only way to channel Gatsby of course. That much pink is intimidating and challenging to most men style clothes . Although worn as separates it can work to give you that whiff of someone who always summers in the Hamptons. Take the jacket and wear it with chinos or white jeans. Or take the trousers and pair it with an unlined double-breasted navy blazer.
A white suit in linen will give you the Gatsby look as well. Brooks Brothers has one in their collection, which they showed with a brown vest. I would skip the vest however to avoid looking like I just stepped out of a movie set. You want an air of Gatsby and not look as though you are headed to a costume party or themed movie screening. Ascot Chang proposes their three-button white linen short suit. But I would skip the shorts entirely and wear it with trousers.
If you are the type to embrace colors then do so. Go for a modernized Gatsby look with a hot pink suit from Paul Smith or a salmon colored double-breasted suit from Salvatore Ferragamo. You’re bound to see variations of colored suits come the next round of fashion week street style coverage.
Two-tone spectator shoes are the natural choice for a Gatsby-inspired look but if you are giving it a modern spin, you can try Hogan‘s sneakers made to look like brogues. Then top it off with a Panama hat from Borsalino because a boater’s hat is a bit tricky in an urban setting.
A smoking jacket will also give you that moneyed Gatsby air. Ralph Lauren Purple Label has a white double-breasted version with a shawl collar which was shown with black trousers and monogrammed velvet slippers. It’s classic Gatsby all the way.
The menswear designer Michael Bastian has a white smoking jacket with contrast color lapel and pocket piping. Its tailored men style clothes slim fit give it a youthful ease.

If you want modern men style clothes, the  Gatsby look is the way to go.
